I am a big fan of Ubuntu but I have only one computer and I need it to run windows so I could play games because linux does not support most of them...
One of the things I can do is create a partition on my hard drive and install it there, but what if something goes wrong? What if my Windows XP gets deleted?
Another option is to use it in VMware Player but it may slow down my computer and it does not allow me to use a full version of Ubuntu anyways.
Instead you can use Wubi. Its a great program that allows you to install Ubuntu in your windows xp just like anyother program, it is a full version and it gives you the option to start the system you like when you turn on your computer and it works much better then it does on the VMware player. Give it a try, it is safe to use and it will not touch your windows installation.
